Our 50th Birthday at Marlpit Community Garden
Voluntary Norfolk turns 50 this year and we decided to celebrate this special anniversary on Wednesday 5th June with a grass-roots demonstration of our values; volunteer gardening at the Marlpit Community Garden.
The Marlpit Community Garden is a volunteer-run project on the edge of Norwich with vegetable plots, forest garden, apiary, orchard, herb garden, wild-flower areas and meadows. It provides a welcome green space for families and individuals to grow their own food, take part in some active gardening and enjoy the social and health benefits of being part of a community garden.
Staff, volunteers and trustees joined the gardening session which was timed to coincide with Volunteers’ Week. It was followed by refreshments at the Marlpit Community Centre, which is also volunteer run, and then followed by Voluntary Norfolk’s 2019 AGM.
It was a great afternoon spent in a lovely location, in great company and with delicious cake. The weather also couldn’t be nicer and decided to welcome us with mild sun rays.
Thank you to The Marlpit Community Garden for hosting us. If you would like to find out more they are holding an open day on 29th June 2019 11am-4pm. You can find out more here.
